Keith’s obituary will be available shortly, and once posted, may be viewed at www.legacy.com.Keith was Executive Vice President at Klaff Realty, LP, a private Chicago-based real estate investment firm that specializes in the acquisition of distressed commercial property on a national scale. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 18, 1950 and is survived by his wife, Lisa Quinn, and two sons, Colin and Brendan. He also leaves behind a Black Army… Keith was President of the Chicago Lions Rugby Club and a board member of the USA Rugby Foundation. Keith had served as President until this past August when he stepped down. He was instrumental in realigning the Lions when he first became involved as part of the building committee in 2005. At this time the Lions had assets in both the School Street Clubhouse and the North Park Tap. He spearheaded the group to consolidate and sell both using the proceeds to purchase an income producing six flat building on Chicago’s Northwest side. The rental units provide a steady income for the Lions as well as providing lodging for newly transplanted players to get their feet on the ground upon first arriving in Chicago.
Keith was also the leader in securing the present playing pitch and clubhouse at our Lions for Hope Field in conjunction with The Hope Academy. His work with Hope Academy was monumental. I will be submitting a proposal to the Lions Executive Committee to rename the grounds on Roosevelt Avenue to “Keith Brown Hope Memorial Field”. Keith’s drive, determination, camaraderie, sense of humor and class will leave a big hole for me and for all Lions. His impact to rugby as a whole and to the Lions in particular has been nothing short of massive. To those of you who would like to send your thoughts, stories, quips, and tributes can do so directly to me if you so desire. I will collect, compile and present them to Lisa.
Just spoke with Lisa and flowers are of course acceptable but she has also established a fund in Keith’s name: Make checks payable to: Keith Brown Memorial Fund 4516 West Berteau Chicago, IL 60641 There will also be envelopes at the Wake/Visitation for donations to the fund. Lisa also said that she’d love to see the Lions in their Lions’ polo shirts at either the wake or mass/funeral or both, which ever you can attend. I did tell her the team had a match in MN so several would be there and it was decided with Dick Smith’s emphatic counsel to not cancel the match and to play on in Keith’s honor. Ray Karenas
